LA Record’s XMAS Party

There’s very little more frustrating than being an ice cream man without a truck. Due to Bessy being from 1969, she’s a little unreliable at times. When I tried to fire her up on Sunday night to head up to the LA Record’s XMAS party in Hollywood, she wasn’t having it. Argghhhh!

My only other option was loading up my 69 lowrider so I took her over to get a shower. Bad luck continued when they shut down the car wash right as i got there. Back to the house for a quick rinse then time to load up a cooler of cream to make a late night dash to LA. I shouldn’t have sweated it all along because once I arrived there wasn’t really a good spot to put the ice cream truck anyways. I loaded up my trusty sling and proceeded to canvass the party testing the desires of drunk kids on a nippy December night.

All went well and one guy ate at least EIGHT frozen treats. NO joke. I thought he was sharing ’em but….nope. That’s a new winter record for sure. It was good to see some Long Beach folks out as well. Dennis was spinning some might funky wax and Ikey and I gabbed a bit about how ATP went down oversees (word is Holy F^ck and Beans were off the wookie). The location couldn’t have been any better for the festivities. Right in the middle of Hollywood in an oversized parking lot that had to be entered by walking through a tunnel surrounded by an art gallery and a vintage clothing store. In the back Darker My Love (tight mix of Psych/Ride/Stone Roses), Horses(?) (two-piece, reverb heavy minus epic ending to their “love song” do to tech problems), and another band rocked it while people danced, chilled on couches, and got pics taken with drunken Santa.

LA Record Folk know how to party. I saw Sean go from sober to hammered in less than an hour on Friday night which is quite an accomplishment if you think about it. They also got their fingers on the pulse on roots LA music and other bands that roll through town. Keep a look out for there weekly poster/zine at your favorite record store and venue around town and/or check em out at myspace. Remember…We’re all in this together!
