I’ve always been a fan of jazz. Well… at least since high school when KLON (no KKJZ) in Long Beach was one of the best jazz radio stations in the country. I’ll try to get some more of my favorites up here over time.

Ray Brown is a legend among jazz musicians and bass players and played with damn-near everyone starting in the forties though 1990 or so. While flipping through a Music Direct catalog I stumbled upon a vinyl pressing of Soular Energy with the final line in bold stating “Our highest recommendation.” I added it to my Spotify Jazz list and spun it one Sunday morning while making waffles. The album is from 1984 so don’t expect anything too crazy going on, it’s definitely on the mellow side of jazz with Gene Harris leading the way on piano for most of the cuts. There’s something about it’s completeness and drive that got me hooked, it’s definitely good ‘work’ music too.

Give it a spin when you get a minute or if your recovering from a long weekend and need to slowly slide into Monday
