The Donnas at the Troubadour

In the world of rock and roll, playing together in the same band for 16 years seems like an eternity. To celebrate that feat, the Donnas kicked off a string of dates and summer shows playing a hometown gig for a jam packed Troubadour in Hollywood.

The familiarity that comes from such a tenure together is clearly evident on stage as the girls rocked through their 14 song power set Friday night. Since 2007’s Bitchin’ record was released, the Donnas have been starting their concerts with the record’s namesake. It’s a siren infused slow roasting track that is largely instrumental until lead singer Brett Anderson pitches in at the very end to kick up the tempo and officially get the show started. Older favorites “Who Invited You” and “Hey, I’m Gonna Be Your Girl” paved the way nicely for new cuts “Get Off” and “Perfect Stranger,” which don’t reinvent the wheel, but beat the speakers in your car just as well when played at maximum volume.

Bringing the show to a close was “5 O’Clock in the Morning” and “Take It Off,” the latter track a huge crossover success in 2002 from the Atlantic album Spend the Night.

The Donnas are on the road this summer with fellow female rockers Pat Benatar and Blondie. Their live shows are not to be missed… check them out!
