If only more ice cream flavors resembled a bar menu Wait! At Izzys Ice Cream in St. Paul, Minnesota, its not a dreamits reality. This ice cream junkies paradise has all of the regular flavors that weve grown up with and has added some adult flavors, such as Guinness and Irish Moxie (made with whiskey).

Located near one of the many Catholic Colleges in St. Paul, its no wonder Izzys has geared its cold concoctions towards the starved college crowd. Even on a cold fall afternoon, there was still a steady stream of people coming in to satisfy their sweet tooth.

Well, being a good Irish girl, I tried the Guinness flavor first, which was actually a very light cream color, instead of resembling the recognizable black beer. It tasted just like a pint of Guinness, but colder. The girl behind the counter said that they make it with real Guinness beer in their kitchen. I then moved on to the mascarpone flavor, which wasnt as rich as I imagined it would be. However, it was still just as sweet and I imagine would taste great with a little bit of strawberry puree.

After chatting with one of the girls behind the counter, I took her recommendation and tried one of their more popular flavors, graham cracker. Just one bite had me remembering my elementary school lunches, where my mother would always put two of those cinnamon crackers in my bright blue lunch box.

I finally settled on a single scoop of Irish Moxie topped with an Izzy Scoop of Graham Cracker. An Izzy Scoop is a mini scoop of any of flavor you desire on top of the full scoop you choose. My scoops of ice cream reminded me of a large bald man wearing a small hat.

The Irish Moxie was by far my favorite flavor that day. It was an almost coffee and chocolate based ice cream, with chocolate covered toffee bits and chocolate cookie crumbles mixed throughout. Simply amazing.

Izzys Ice Cream also offers some soy and sorbet flavors, including soy chocolate and grapefruit sorbet. They do special order ice cream cakes, hand packed quarts and a large variety of homemade ice cream treats, including ice cream bars and sandwiches, with fresh baked cookies.

One of the best ice cream shops I have ever visited, its a must for any ice cream adventurer.
