Dead Meadow at Alex’s promoting Long Beach Tourism

It wasn’t too long ago that Long Beach had at least a couple of places that good touring bands would play regularly, but the man took care of getting them shut down. For this reason, when a good band comes to town it’s pretty damn exciting.

Dead Meadow tore through a nearly two-hour set at Alex’s Bar that was not only exhilarating, but served as a microcosm for what’s really happening in Long Beach right now; good times, good music and a crowd of music-loving good people.

As the band shredded through it’s unique sound of psych meets Sabbathian-metal from its Shivering King and Others and Feathers records, the crowd danced and reveled.

Not to take anything away from Dead Meadow, but it’s been that way here since Ice Cream Man’s Christmas Party with Mazarin. Add to that shows by the Tyde, the Lilys, the Octopus Project and the countless talented people that play frequently that live in this city, and I would say that Long Beach has a pretty frothing music scene going on right now. Seriously, every one you know or run into here is in a band, works at a record store or just plain has really good taste in music.

So what I say is this; touring bands, if you are tired of playing at those clubs in L.A. where either most of the crowd doesn’t pay attention or is just there to be seen, come to Long Beach. We appreciate you. Not only that, we’ll come out to your show, get super drunk, dance around and have a good time.
