Kansas to Nashville – getting ready for Bonnaroo

I swear we’re still trying to get all the Wakarusa pics up. Knife and I left Lawrence, Kansas yesterday for Nashville with hopes of accomplishing the 600 mile drive in under twelve hours. My new goal is to break down in every state….or at least get lost. We made it St. Louis and were trying to get pics of the truck and the arch together and missed our exit. After driving by the Anheuser Busch Brewery we got stuck in traffic trying to make it across the river to Illinois.

After filling up gas I noticed that Bessie was occasionally puttering and losing power. We pulled over to check it out and found that the ignition switch was sparking and the truck wouldn’t start. Knife and I did some magic and got her back on the road. The drive through Illinois and Kentucky is beautiful. Bessie was running great and we pushed it a bit to get to a Cracker Barrel for some grub. After filling up gas I tried to drive outta the station and she kept stalling out. I backed her up, almost hit a pole, and spilled coffee everywhere. We called up Knife’s dad in Alaska and he walked us through some potential issues. The throttle cable is/was starting to shred and the point where the linkage meets the cable was jammed. Eventually we wiggled it back into place and were back on the road.

It was past 11 as we approached Nashville and the moon was rising to the east. At first I wasn’t sure what it was because it was quite large and extremely red. We tried to find somewhere to pull over to setup a tri-pod to get some pics but there’re alot of trees and hills down here and it never seemed to work. We finally checked in around midnight and Pat picked up his rental van from the airport and we all crashed at La Quinta Inn somewhere in Franklin, Tennessee.

Today is running around like crazy trying to pick up ice cream (thanks to Guitar Center), dry ice, and some bucks to pay for it all.

The swimming pool pics are from Lawrence. We didn’t shower at Wakarusa so we did a triple at the local pool (shower, chlorine, shower) and I think it took off all our layers of hippie-dom. Ok, really….i’m outta here. actually, gonna take a much needed shower….ahhhh

See you at Bonnaroo? I’ll the guy in just his shorts freaking out an heading-banging to Radiohead…even to the slow songs.
