ESG and Future Pigeon at the Ex_Plex

Future Pigeon is getting in the bad habit of upstaging the headliners they open for. Even after three shows in less than two months they still seem unique and interesting. They manage to fill the stage without giving the impression that every kid that grew up on the lead singers block is on stage regardless of if they are earning their space. The cover of Horace Andy’s song “Root of All Evil” is always a stand out along with the jam where they all whistle. Imagine Rancid with more of a reggae injection.

The headline act ESG played some great tunes too. It is awesome to see older women holding down a live show like that. ESG hails from the early days of Hip Hop. The rhythmic but melodic singing sounded uber funkey over the organic percussion and bass. ESG has over the years developed into a mother and daughter organization and continue to rock live shows even twenty-five years after their first release.

This was a kick-off show for Arthurball which went down the following two days at the Echo and Ex_plex.
