Pop Levi at Club Transistor

Pop Levi of the group Super Numeri played to a small crowd at the Transistor Jazz Club in China Town. Pop Levi played on the small dance floor, unaccompanied, save his guitar. The blues/rock sound of Captain Beafheart and other influences was in full presence and gave me a whole new take on Austin Powers. No joke, guy even had the shoes. Initially the setting was super low key to the point that I felt the need to turn off my cell phone. Pop Levi jammed through what sounded like a classic rock set that did not sound at all like what he posted on his web site. It was a good 1960s sounding show that was mellow and rightfully well received.

After the really short set the dance floor opened and the time warp continued. Guys dressed in suites with Indie Rock hair and women in dresses that you see on your mom in the pictures from the late sixties. It was great. The Djs who also worked at the bar/club kept playing great song after great song and everybody was danceing. It was rock n’ roll of an earlier era and a totally new experience for me. After Hip Hop and reggae this is what’s up. People were uber nice, drinks were priced well and I can’t wait to head back.
