Sahara Hotnights at Spaceland

The Sahara Hotnights offered up a free show at Spaceland on Monday, September 12. The Hotnights brought out a rowdy crowd of both men and women. Being that they are a 20-something all girl band from Sweden, the ratio seemed to have leaned a bit more the male side. My favorite member of the crowd was a 40+ portly balding man that stood right in front enthusiastically sing-screaming the lyrics to every song and regularly raising his bottle of beer to toast front-woman Maria Elisabeth Andersson. SH played about a 45 minute set that was tight and rocking.

Jennie, the guitarist, had some problems initially with her guitar (i.e. it was not coming through the amp), but instead of stopping the show and pouting, SH played as if nothing was wrong. You have to love it when a band does that. The show must go on!!! The band played material mostly from their new album, but threw in my favorite song from their last album, Alright, Alright. SH has drastically improved since I last saw them about 3 years ago. Their camaraderie on stage has gotten better and their live musical talent seems to be overall sharpened. The drummer, Josephine, is amazing and, to me, the most entertaining to watch. What a great free show!
